The Rise of Product Architects (PO → PM → PA)

Original post
The Rise of Product Architects (PO → PM → PA) We’re entering an era where some PMs aren’t just solving problems, they’re decoding entire systems. Think Rube Goldberg machines (https://rebrand.ly/mp2d2wr): chaos on the surface, predictable patterns underneath. Product Architects see these patterns. They map the full customer maze, spot where the there's a leak, and zoom in with surgical clarity. And this is why CEOs sometimes get paid what gets called “insane” money. They’re not just running a business. They’re Business Architects. Most PMs operate at ~15,000 ft. It’s high, but still pre-leadership altitude. Product Architects? They’re cruising at 50,000 ft. From there, they see how multiple business units interlock. They copy what works, purge what doesn’t, and pull the biggest levers for growth, all while running a thousand mental experiments in parallel. PAs switch lenses like designers. Each is its own problem space, its own system, its own messy universe (and unknown): - Culture - People - Product - Design - Marketing - CX - Technology - R&D They don’t force every problem through the same business lens, unlike most traditional leaders. This crossover skill is what lets them consistently engineer (or avoid) a specific kind of randomness across products, teams, and entire companies. They don’t just add bricks to the product; they blueprint the entire company-building factory. P.S. Respect to the OG Product Architect: Steve Jobs (v2)
